The text facilitates a review of linguistic concepts in the context of the whole language as well as expands vocabulary skills and skills in listening, speaking, writing and reading French. The use of film is fully integrated into the course, providing content as well as high interest motivation to the student and experience in a variety of real linguistic contexts. The textbook integrates the study of French language and culture with the study of films. Films are used not only for their ability to generate high interest among students, but also because they provide a range of cultural experiences, idiomatic expressions, interesting and real world situations, as well as being themselves important reflections of modern French artistic endeavors.Cinéphile is comprised of nine chapters, each of which is centered around a different film. The films vary in content and genre (animated film, dramatic comedy, farce, romantic comedy, thriller, drama, adventure, etc.) and feature well known French filmmakers and actors. The selected films mirror the progressive nature of developing linguistic proficiency and become more sophisticated in language and cultural content as the student progresses through the text. Each chapter also includes short authentic readings in support of the grammar and cultural issues as well as a multiplicity of exercises. The text is in four color, is amply illustrated, and is accompanied by an exercise book, an instructorÂ’s edition, a test bank and an answer key to the exercise book
